The Quilt Trail at Anderson Street Park
ARTIST: Kate Eggleston
The Quilt Trail at Anderson Street Park will transform the green space into a vibrant celebration of Hackensack’s history. Inspired by quilting and textile traditions from diverse cultures, the installation uses bold colors, playful patterns, and three recurring forms: eyes, arches, and triangles. Together, these forms create a visual language centered on connection and belonging.

The Quilt Trail
The eyes bear witness, calling attention to the people, stories, and history that have shaped and continue to shape Hackensack. The triangles, a strong architectural form, suggest the strength created when individuals come together to build a community. The arches create portals between spaces, evoking our shared experiences.
Quilts in various sizes wrap around trees throughout the park, including older trees that have stood witness to generations of community life. Arches hung with mini quilts along the brick paths invite visitors to move through the artwork as they travel through the park. The hanging sculptures, with fringe drifting in the wind, recall the spirits of our ancestors. Their presence reminds us that communities are built on layers of history and that those who came before us continue to influence who we are today.
The Quilt Trail is about connections between people and place, past and present, and individual stories and the larger community. Through fabric, pattern, color, and movement, the park becomes a living quilt. Hackensack is a patchwork of people, histories, cultures, and experiences woven together.
